Music

At Cubitt Town Infants' School, we recognise that music is one of the highest forms of creativity, and a universal language that should be fostered and developed.

We encourage pupils to:

  • Develop musical skills and concepts through listening, appraising, performing and composing,
  • Develop social skills through co-operation with others in the shared experience of music making,
  • Develop an understanding of musical traditions and developments in a variety of cultures,
  • Be motivated to enjoy and succeed in music.

During their time with us, pupils will be taught to sing and play musically with increasing confidence and control. They will develop an understanding of musical composition, organising and manipulating ideas within musical structures and reproducing sounds from aural memory.

Our main music provision is through THAMES Music, who are qualified music specialists. The progression of music learning during their time at the school has been carefully thought about so that pupils can build on skills learnt in previous years. We want our pupils leaving Cubitt Town to have an appreciation of the importance of music and performance, as well as the skills to further build on their musical knowledge beyond primary school and throughout their lives.
