Learning about African animals at Colchester ZOO

We went to Colchester ZOO as a part of our topic about Africa. We saw many African animals, such as giraffes, elephants, lions and cheetahs. We even got to feed elephants some delicious vegetables and giraffes some yummy green leaves. We have learnt a lot about these amazing creatures and it was wonderful to see them all!

Enabling Enterprise Cafe Extravaganza

Our clever children opened their own cafes. They practised core enterprise skills, such as working in a team or staying positive.

It took a lot of planning and creativity to come up with the cafe theme and then create decorations, menus and choose what to sell.

Our cafes were a great success! Well done everyone!

Materials Workshop at The Soanes Centre

We were exploring what things are made of in an engaging workshop in the Soanes Centre. We tested reversible and irreversible changes to the states of materials and went on a material hunt in the park. We found out a lot about properties of materials too. Great learning everyone!

Red Nose Day

We all wore red to raise money for Comic Relief. Everyone showed great generosity and brought some money in. We counted all the money together and raised incredible £33.71. Thank you for your kind donations!no

World Book Day

We came dressed up as our favourite book characters. We had lots of fun describing! We talked about the appearance and personality of our characters and explained why we liked them.

Shrove Tuesday = Pancake Day

On Tuesday we talked about how Christians celebrate Easter.

The long build up to Easter is called Lent. The day before Lent begins is called Shrove Tuesday. 'Shrove' means being forgiven for the things we did. Another name for Shrove Tuesday is Pancake Day. Long ago this was a day for feasting and having a good time. People went to church to confess the bad things they had done and would be 'shriven' or forgiven before the start of Lent. Rich foods such as eggs were forbidden during Lent so one way of using them up would be to make pancakes.

We really enjoyed making and eating pancakes and it was interesting to find out why we make them.

Our Trip to St. Paul's Cathedral

We went on a trip to St. Paul's Cathedral to learn about the features of a church. We saw first hand many Christian artefacts and we learnt how they are used for worship during religious ceremonies. We also looked at Christian symbols in artwork around the cathedral.

In the afternoon we climbed the galleries. In the Whispering gallery We were amazed how the sound travels. When we finally got to the Golden gallery, we saw many of London's historic landmarks.

What a memorable day we had!
